Pet Urgent Care

When Your Pet Can’t Wait — Call Montrose Animal Hospital

Not every health concern your pet faces is a true emergency — but that doesn’t mean it can wait a week for a scheduled appointment. Vomiting that won’t stop, a limp that appeared out of nowhere, an eye that’s suddenly red and swollen — these are the kinds of issues that need attention today, from a medical team you already trust.

That’s what urgent care appointments at Montrose Animal Hospital are for.

During our regular business hours, we’re equipped to see and treat sick or injured pets on a same-day basis. You don’t need to sit in an unfamiliar emergency clinic waiting room for hours when the problem is urgent but not life-threatening. Our team — the same doctors and staff who know your pet — can evaluate, diagnose, and begin treatment right away. But call early–same-day appointments fill up quickly.

What Counts as Urgent Care?

Urgent care covers health issues that are causing your pet pain or discomfort, could worsen quickly without treatment, or are clearly abnormal but don’t require the intensive resources of a 24-hour emergency hospital.

Common urgent care situations include:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea (more than once or twice, or with blood present)
  • Limping or sudden difficulty walking
  • Eye redness, swelling, discharge, infection, or squinting
  • Ear pain, excessive head shaking, or odor
  • Minor cuts, lacerations, or wounds
  • Suspected ingestion of a non-toxic foreign object
  • Mild allergic reactions (hives, facial swelling without breathing difficulty)
  • Urinary straining or discomfort
  • Sudden lethargy or loss of appetite
  • Skin irritation, hot spots, or rashes
  • Coughing or sneezing that is new or worsening

If you’re unsure whether your pet’s situation needs urgent care or is a true emergency, call us at (770) 977-9000. Our team can help you assess the situation over the phone and advise on the best next step.

What Is a True Emergency?

Some situations require immediate emergency care and should not wait. If your pet is experiencing any of the following, please call us immediately or go directly to an emergency facility:

  • Difficulty breathing or choking
  • Collapse, unconsciousness, or inability to stand
  • Suspected poisoning or toxin ingestion
  • Severe bleeding that won’t stop
  • Suspected broken bones or serious trauma (hit by a car, fall from height)
  • Seizures
  • Pale, blue, or white gums
  • Extreme abdominal bloating, especially in large dogs
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control with other neurological signs
  • Suspected urinary blockage (especially in male cats)

During business hours: Call us immediately at (770) 977-9000 and let us know you’re on your way. This allows us to prepare for your arrival and begin treatment faster.
